An article written by Gatch based on the two weeks he spent as a participant in the 1964 Mississippi Freedom Summer Project sponsored by the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO), with particular attention to the participation by Iowa students and clergy. Supporting materials consisting of newspaper articles, correspondence, and incident reports with accompanying affidavits are included, as well as a 1994 article in which some participants look back 30 years later on their experiences that summer.
